Monthly Archives: May 2011
Many of us were deeply saddened at AM Radio’s announcment that he would be closing his sims at IDIA within 6 months. To celebrate this incredible artist, RoHaus Art Gallery and Avalon Town (featured in the current issue of Prim Perfect) are sponsoring this exhibit in his honour!
Opening Friday, 20th May, 2011
European Cocktail Hour, 3pm SLT
Official Opening 6-8pm
This exhibit is comprised of several parts. At RoHaus, a series of vintage and specially comissioned works by the celebrated SL photographers Raven Haalan, PJ Trenton, and Stephen Venkman are on display, plus the first public showing of works by Rowan Derryth (yours truly).
Outside, an installation of AM’s exquisite creations, including rare objects and his own photographic works, has been co-curated by Derryth & Trenton. AM has himself lent a few rarities for this display, which has been arranged inside one of his cozy houses.
Upon seeing the exhibit going up, neighbours Amber Eyre and Bumble Parx decided to join in and mount AM exhibits as well. Landmarks for these displays will be at the gallery, but visitors can easily wander on over the old-fashioned way. Any other town residents that wish to be included should IM Rowan Derryth – everyone is welcome!
You can read a little more about the background of this exhibit at my personal blog.
We hope you can join us for this exciting event!

Silent Auction June 5th through 11th
Live Auction June 12th
Relay for Life of Second Life is pleased to announce the Survivors Art Show & Auction from June 5th through the 12th. A silent auction will run from June 5th to the 11th and a live auction will be held on June 12th at 12pm SLT.
Artists are invited to submit works for participation in this Relay for Life of Second Life fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society. This year’s theme for the Relay is Seasons of Hope. Artists are encouraged, but not required, to consider this theme in creating or presenting art for the auctions. Of the submissions entered, a committee will choose a selection of works to be presented at the live auction. Artwork can be one of a kind, unique works, or copies of previous works but they must be your own original work.
This year we would like to streamline the exhibition and encourage quality over quantity, so we are encouraging fewer submissions and taking into account size and prim count to make the entire auction a high quality, low lag experience for attendees.
1.) Limit 1 entry per artist – if we have space to open up to a second submission we will notify the participants
2.) Please keep the size of the work within a 10m diameter and 20m height
3.) Please keep the prim counts below 50 prims
4.) Scripts are allowed within reason, please consider sim performance
5.) Bots are not permitted
6.) The event and sim are PG, please submit appropriate works
7.) Works should allow transfer rights for auction purposes
8.) The art auction committee reserves the right to turn down entries for any reason
9.) Submission deadline is May 29th at noon SLT
Thank you for your generosity and continued support of Relay for Life in Second Life!

2011 Survivors Art Show & Auction
Relay for Life SL is going strong in the virtual world and the Avalon Knights, our official Relay for Life Team is helping to make an impact. Avalon is sponsoring one of the regions on the track this year for the first time and as of this writing, our kiosks around town and in the businesses of some our residents who work outside of Avalon are showing a total of $L85,384.00 raised so far! This is equal to almost $350.00 usd!
The recent May Day event was very successful and our booth brought in just over $L10,000 as well. Many thanks to all of you who contributed items for the vendors and who came and helped out. A special thanks to Tricia Aferdita for laying out the booth and setting up the vendors for us.
Avalon will be fielding some fund-raisers in the upcoming weeks. We hope to have an art auction, and equestrian show (or a comedy, depending on your point of view) and possibly a fashion show as well. These events will be posted as more information is developed.
In the meantime, keep up what you are doing. Our current fund-raising has placed us just L$15,000 short of becoming silver level teams in the Relay. We can easily bridge that gap if we keep doing what we’re doing. If you need kiosks for your business or vendors to sell items for Relay, contact me and I’ll be glad to send you some.
Thanks again for your efforts and all you do to help Relay and in making Avalon a better place for all of us!
